Optimizing Micropollutant Removal by Ozonation; Interference of Effluent Organic Matter Fractions

چکیده

Ozonation for micropollutant removal from wastewater treatment plant effluent is energy and cost-intensive because of competition between background organic matter micropollutants. This study aims to elucidate the interference different fractions during ozonation Wastewater was fractionated using membranes XAD-8 resin. All membrane resin were spiked with 18 micropollutants (2 µg/L) ozonated 0.25, 0.5 1 g O3/g TOC. Results show that these differ in their Interference lower smallest size fraction (<1 kDa) than all other low medium ozone reactivity. The hydrophobic neutrals hydrophilics factions showed a high reactivity, respectively. four parameters analyzed (specific UV absorbance at 254 nm, fluorescence, chemical oxygen demand nitrite) could not differences removal. Still, we conclude understanding type present matrix, essential optimize tertiary treatments.

Real-time control of micropollutant removal from secondary effluent by ozonation

Ozonation has shown to be a promising technology in removing micropollutants from wastewater effluent but current basic control strategies still result in sub-optimal ozone dosing. This work aimed at applying novel, yet simple, surrogate models (based on delta UVA254), to assess the micropollutant removal on pilot-scale as a proof-of-concept. Different events and fluctuations in effluent condit...

Removal of natural organic matter from aqueous solutions by electrocoagulation

Natural organic matter (NOM) affects some qualitative parameters of water such as color. In addition, it can deteriorate the performance of water treatment process including coagulation, adsorption, and membranes. NOM also reacts with chlorine in the chlorination process and may form disinfection by-products. The present study was carried out in laboratory-scale in a batch system using a cylind...

Modelling of Micropollutant Removal by Ozonation and Chlorination in Potable Water Treatment

In regards of increasingly stringent rules on toxicity, prediction engines for potable water treatment have become a necessity. This particularly applies to oxidation steps, where micropollutants should be removed and where potentially harmful by-products may be formed, and has therefore lead to the building up of a new simulator for both chlorination and ozonation. This first report aims at gi...

Modeling Micropollutant Removal by Ozonation and Chlorination in Potable Water Treatment

Having set general frames for our study [Mandel, 2007] and our software, SimOx, [Mandel et al., 2008] in previous publications, this report aims at giving a brief overview of the experimental part of the research done in 2008. The experiments were divided in two periods: from January to June and from October to the end of the year. During the first period, results were collected to validate a p...
